SCHEDULE

The innovative schedule at TNHSP is a key aspect of our school.

The daily schedule reflects teenage bio-rhythms. Days begin at 9:00 a.m., and the first class of the day is always devoted to physical activity.

Two large flex periods allow teachers to structure each day around the needs of the students. The adaptable schedule offers extra time for one-on-one help or for group project work. Reading and writing skills, math concepts, study skills, and the arts are consistent aspects of the daily and weekly schedule.

At TNHSP, a slightly longer school year and short breaks help to maintain student’s skill levels, both within the school year and from year to year. The yearly schedule is built around six, approximately 30 day, project periods, with a short vacation between most blocks. Each project period focuses on a particular subject area—science, literature, or social studies—with two projects per year in each area. Projects cover necessary content, engage students in issues of local and global importance, and culminate in the creation of a high quality portfolio of work. By focusing on one area at a time, students can delve more deeply into their research, and skills can be strengthened in a more consistent way.

"My favorite thing about TNHSP is the small classes because everyone can get the help that they need." -- TNHSP student
